How to clean fabric car seats at home

A spray-extraction cleaner can clean suitable fabric car seats. Remove dirt while keeping moisture away from electrical components and avoiding soaked padding.

Check the seat material

Follow the vehicle manual. Leather and synthetic leather need separate care; a textile extraction cleaner is not suitable for every seat. Keep switches, connectors and electrical parts dry.

Remove loose objects and mats, then dry-vacuum seats and crevices. Test the product in a hidden area. Be gentle around seams and worn fabric.

Control the solution

Use detergent suitable for the machine and seat fabric. Spray lightly and make slow overlapping extraction passes. Finish with suction-only passes rather than saturating the filling.

For heavy dirt, controlled repeat treatment is preferable to flooding an area. Do not expect every old stain or odour to disappear in one clean.

Leave time before driving

Choose a time when you can ventilate the car safely and let the seat dry completely. A dry surface can hide damp padding. Do not cover a damp seat.

Machine rental time and fabric drying time are different. If you need the car immediately, plan another cleaning time or enquire about a service first.
